Also we have our “smoked” heavy whisky tumblers on stock. These thick bottom tumblers are ideal for keeping in the freezer. When you pore your beloved whisky into this frozen tumbler it will cool down the whisky nicely but not dilute it like ice-cubes do.

Because of the handblown nature of these tumblers each whisky glass is different in smoke signature. This is no print on the glass, but a mix of 2 different colours of glass mixed to create the smoke inside the glass. They are available per tumbler at EUR 12,- incl VAT.

Due to the fact that our distillery is at the harbour of Bruinisse and located on an Island, the choice of the taste was simple. It had to be like an Islay whisky. Dark and peated are the main ingrediënts. We call our whisky “Eylandt Legend”

The response to the oppertunity to buy shares of the first casks were very positive. We offer 180 shares in total of the first casks sales are booming! When you buy a share of our Eylandt Legend, you will receive this year a 200ml bottle of White Spirit, the first and second aging-year you will also receive a 200ml bottle. Finally after 3 years we organize a bottle-party where all the share-holders can receive their personal bottle with their name on the label.

Yesterday we collected our peat for the whisky production. There is peat available on our Island, but this is all protected by environmental law. During the Mideavel time most of the peat was harvested because it contained salt. (the white gold in those days) The peat was harvested, dried and finally burned to refine the salt from the ashes. We collected our peat at a company which is specialized in peat-import.

We are the only distillery in Holland which has their own malting floor and kiln for whisky. The Barley is grown at our Island Schouwen-Duiveland. After malting and kilning, the malt is processed by the windmill in Zierikzee, a monument dating back to 1850 which is still operational and will add a piece of Zeeland history to our Eylandt Legend Whisky. After malting and creating the wash it takes some time at fermentation.

Finally it is distilled in our wood-fired distillation boiler which can hold 2100 litre.

After touch-down at Edinburgh and received our rental car (right hand drive, left hand shift) we drove up to Speyside.

Our first distillery was Gragganmore Distillery. During the tour at Gragganmore we tasted the usual amount of fine whisky. We thank Irene and her collegue for the nice tour.

During our stay in Speyside regio we slept and ate at Gragganmore House of Mr en Mrs Alcott. Directly situated at the “Gragganmore Distillery” this was a really nice combination.

As you can see, the view from the perfectly mowed lawn with a dram in your hand is a nice way to wait for dinner.

You can call Mr Alcott’s kitchen without a doubt outstanding. I can really recommend to have dinner at Gragganmore House. It is also possible to eat there without booking a room. Mr Alcott was a chef who worked in Paris and London. Since a couple of years he now works full-time at Gragganmore House.

The 3-course meal which is served for a valuable price in the Scottisch-style dining is very, very good. I’ve had my shares of restaurants but this is just really nice! The Scottish breakfast complete wiht Haggis and Black-pudding was a bit of a handful in the early morning, but a fine bottom in your stomach to have a whisky tasting or two on top of it.

At Speyside Cooperage we selected our casks. This was the real purpose of our yourney. You abviously knew the expression: Nosing and tasting whisky, I have been cask nosing in the yard!

The casks are burned on the inside to add flavour to the white spirit and turn it into Whisky. It is a real spectical to see this process. You may notice that the casks in the yard look a bit old and dirty.
A good word of advice: Never judge the outside, there maybe something beautiful within.

Ofcourse we alos visited several distilleries such as Cardhu, Glen Grant, Glen Ord, Dallas Dhu , etc. Unfortunately it is not permitted to take pictures inside the distilleries. The only distillery where you can is at Dallas Dhu which is turned into a museum

Driving from Speyside to Edinburgh we were getting used to the driving left and shifting left.
After checked in our luggage at the airport, loaded with “bottled studymaterial”, there was a nice surprise at our gate: a complete bar which also had whisky (what a surpise)

Waiting at 11 am to board with a Dram in our hand an lovely memories of Speyside in our heart, I couldn’t think of a better finish of our own whisky trail. Sláinte!

With this Barley we will produce the first dutch Whisky from the county Zeeland in Holland.
